This breed is the result of crossing the energy and agility of a terrier with the build and strength of a bulldog. Some experts believe the rise in pit bull attacks is due to the growing popularity of this species. They have always been bred for fighting and are often mistreated, abused or restrained. However, when treated properly, this smart breed can be quite outgoing and playful. PETA (People for the Ethical Treatment of Animals) has released a statement on fatal pit bull incidents. The charity stated that "pit bulls experience widespread, persistent abuse and neglect." This may explain why one breed in particular is more likely to suffer injuries and die.
3. Rottweiler
Once upon a time, strong dogs called Rottweilers were bred to pull carts and protect homes. This particular breed of dog is known for its viciousness. One of the earliest breeds of livestock used for herding were these dogs. Many consider the species to be intelligent, active, and require a lot of attention and exercise. Without these things, Rottweilers can become aggressive. Aggression can easily escalate into destructive acts such as biting, attacking, or scratching. The Association of Professional Dog Trainers (APDT) estimates that a Rottweiler can bite with a force of 328 psi (pounds per square inch). That's almost 2.5 times the human psi, which averages between 120 and 140.
